Beware of Whatsapp Spam Messages inviting you to Activate Video Calling Feature

Facebook-owned WhatsApp has been adding the latest feature video calling, which available for Android version(4.3+), iOS7+, and Windows Phone platforms. The functionality was introduced in the beta update last month, and now it’s being rolled out gradually to all users.

However, since it isn’t available to everyone, scammers are making full use of this opportunity by circulating fake messages to activate the video calling feature.

It must be noted that these links aren’t official from Whatsapp, and may be either spyware or adware. The scammers are making money when users click on these links since these websites are crammed with ads. Some of these links could even infect your smartphone.

We tried one such link on a phone ourselves, and the website we landed on looks similar to the official site. It fools the users by asking them to invite their friends and groups – and probably that’s why such messages are going viral. The scammers also get access to your personal details in the process.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time such spam is doing the rounds on WhatsApp.
